The EU Digital Product Passport Registry is now operational.
The Registry is a central EU infrastructure for registration of DPP identifiers and associated metadata. The actual product passport data remains decentralised.
Milestone: the European Commission launched the DPP Registry and a testing environment on 20 July 2026.
What the Registry does
Under ESPR, the Commission establishes a registry to store unique identifiers and specified metadata. The Registry supports verification and future customs controls for products covered by applicable delegated acts.
What it does not mean
The Registry does not mean every physical product already needs a DPP today. Product-specific delegated acts determine which products need a passport and what information is required.
Why businesses should care now
- Identifier strategy can no longer be treated as an afterthought.
- Passport hosting and Registry registration are separate architectural questions.
- Customs verification will rely on registration identifiers for products in scope once the relevant rules apply.
